Christmas jumpers galore at Hampshire law firm

Friday 16th December was not a normal day as team members from all three offices of Hampshire law firm, Warner Goodman LLP, took part in Christmas Jumper Day.  Everyone pulled on their festive pullovers and raised over £200 for charity, Save the Children.

Are your tenants disqualified from living in the UK?

From 1 December 2016, a landlord or agent will have committed a criminal offence where they know or have ‘reasonable cause to believe’ that any property they are letting is occupied by someone who is disqualified from residing in the UK, regardless of when the tenancy was granted.  This is due to Sections 39 to 41 of the Immigration Act 2016 amending the Immigration Act 2014 to enhance the ‘right to rent’ regime.

Children proceedings, whether public or private, include children of varying ages and all with different levels of understanding of the process that they are involved in. Within public children law cases which can involve children going into foster care, the Guardian appointed by CAFCAS (Child and Family Court Advisory Service) represents the child, their wishes and best interests. However, the view of the Guardian does not always align with the views of the child. In some cases a child is also entitled to appoint their own solicitor.  Hannah Rogers, Trainee Solicitor, explains here what a child can and cannot do during proceedings in which they are involved.

In Bellman v Northampton Recruitment Ltd, the High Court held that a company is not vicariously liable for injuries caused by an employee after a work Christmas party has ended. Mr Bellman was employed by Northampton Recruitment Ltd and was recruited by Mr Major, the Director of Northampton Recruitment, in 2010.
