It has been an accepted fact that every employee is under an implied duty of good faith towards their employer. However the case of MPT v Peel has tested this idea in the High Court.  The Court had to consider whether employees had to answer honestly when asked by their employer whether they had plans to set up a competing business when leaving the company.

APIL's Injury Prevention Day asks us to back off

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) will be hosting their own Injury Prevention Day on Wednesday 16th August.  The focus for 2017 will be on raising awareness of the dangers of tailgating, and encouraging safer driving to reduce the number of low-speed collisions on UK roads.  Several of the Personal Injury team at Warner Goodman are members of APIL, and here Aimee Brown highlights why this campaign is so important.

Help to Buy Scheme extended to 2021

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has announced that the Help to Buy Scheme, which was launched in 2013, is to continue until at least 2021.  The news comes amid rumours that the scheme was to be scrapped, which led to shares in leading house builders falling earlier this month.  

Employment Law Case Update: Walker v Innospec Ltd and others

You may well have seen news coverage on the case of  Walker v Innospec Ltd and others. This was a landmark case involving a worker and his same-sex partner. The claimant, Mr Walker, retired from Innospec in 2003 after working there for 23 years. In 2006 he asked Innospec whether in the event of his death, they would pay a spouse’s pension to his civil partner. 

Has your EPC certificate expired?

EPC certificates were first launched on the 1st August 2007, and were introduced as a way to provide energy usage and costs on a property, as well as making suggestions about how the property could be more energy efficient.  This is based on a rating between A to G; A being most efficient and G least efficient.
