National Adoption Week was launched in 1997 by BAAF Adoption and Fostering with the aim of raising awareness of adoption and the process across the UK. Each year sees a different focus to the campaign and this year the week, running from Monday 3rd November to Sunday 9th November, will focus on siblings.

The Festive Season this year starts for some when on 1 December much anticipated legislation comes into force that will give effect to the new ‘shared parental leave’ regime. The new law will apply to employees whose babies are due (or who will adopt a child) on or after 5 April 2015.

Warner Goodman Commercial recently presented a seminar under the banner “Doing Business Abroad” at the Chilworth Manor Hotel. With over 40 guests in attendance from a variety of business sectors, the evening was a great success. The audience, mainly comprised of SME business people, came to learn how to trade, expand and operate overseas and how to avoid pitfalls.
On Sunday 12th October, four members of the Warner Goodman LLP Personal Injury team took on the formidable challenge of completing the Walk the Test Way charity walk to raise funds for road safety charity, Brake. Enduring harsh winds, pouring rain and extremely sore feet, the team completed the 25.5 mile walk in just over 9 hours, and raised over £500 for the charity.
Graeme Barclay, Family Partner at Hampshire based law firm Warner Goodman LLP, was recently selected for interview to contribute towards important research conducted by Cardiff Law School. The aim of the research was to ascertain how often the courts make orders on divorce sharing pensions between couples, as initial signs show they are not as popular as predicted they would be. The British Franchise Association has again been concerning itself with the question of self-regulation v Regulation. Regulation with a capital “R” in this context means regulation by the State—laws governing the way in which the relationship between franchisor and franchisee has to work; laws that might, for example prohibit “no reliance” (on anything said by the franchisor to the franchisee prior to the contract) clauses; or proscribe formal, pre-contract, disclosure by franchisor to franchisee (on which the franchisee can rely); or cooling off periods.
