The stress, worry and upset of divorce is all that couples should have to face when making this difficult decision, but now divorcing couples also have to manage the financial cost since Legal Aid disappeared for the majority of cases earlier this year.  Samantha Miles, Family Partner, looks at the effect this is having on couples looking to divorce, and how the launch of their new fixed fee packages will help them.

“According to the Office of National Statistics, divorce rates are decreasing,” explains Sam.  “There are many theories as to why this is the case, varying from the cost of divorce being too high for some during a time of financial hardship, to couples waiting until the value of their home increases before they look to divorce.

“While either of these factors could be true, couples wishing to get divorced will have a reason as to why their marriage is no longer working, and so staying together for financial reasons could have an even more damaging effect on the relationship, particularly if children are involved.  Even though the divorce rate is in decline, 42% of all marriages do still end in divorce, which is a staggering amount.”

Sam continues, “Before April of this year, some couples did qualify for Legal Aid, which meant that they received financial support when paying for their legal fees.  Now that Legal Aid is not available to all, we have designed our new divorce packages to help those couples who have unfortunately reached the decision to separate and may not be able to afford traditional divorce fees.”

There are four fixed fee divorce packages that Warner Goodman LLP offer, starting from as little as £99 including VAT for their Kick Start package.  Sam concludes, “Our range of packages really do offer clients the freedom to manage their divorce their way for the cost they want.  The difference between the packages is the level of hand-holding the client receives, and no matter what level they do ultimately go for, every client will receive the same professional and understanding service.  Our team have been working for years helping couples through one of the hardest times of their lives, and we will continue to do so.”
