Warner Goodman walk the Test Way for Solent Mind

  • Posted

On Sunday 14th October a team of nine people from across the departments of Warner Goodman will be completing the Walk the Test Way challenge to raise funds for local charity, Solent Mind.  Pam Kamel, Trainee Solicitor and team leader of the walkers, explains why they are taking part in this important event.

Who are Solent Mind?

Solent Mind is a charity providing advice and support to anyone struggling with their mental health.   They not only deliver services to the local community in terms of counselling and online resources, but also campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.  They form a part of a network of 140 local minds in England and Wales, all of which are independent charities.

“We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health,” explains Pam.  “The services that Solent Mind offers support those struggling with grief, mental health illnesses and other stresses via an online referral system for counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; all available through a self-referral service, without the need to visit a doctor to get the help required; which may seem daunting.  They also encourage people to strive towards a healthy work-life balance, which is a strong ethos of Warner Goodman, and one we have taken seriously with a significant investment in technology to promote more flexible working for our employees.”

The Walk the Test Way challenge will take place on Sunday 14th October with the team walking 16 miles from Romsey to Wherwell.  Team members joining Pam from across the firm’s departments and offices will be Torion Bowles, Sabrina Skerritt, Naomi Maire, Genni Cooper, Zoe Watkins-Fellows, Hayley Steer, Laura Salt and Kyla Clark.

Pam concludes, “Approximately 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem each year, meaning we all know someone who has struggled, if we have not ourselves.  This is a cause very close to my own heart and those of my colleagues, and the work that Solent Mind provides locally is incredibly important in offering support and change to those who do need help.  I am extremely proud that we are taking part in the Walk the Test Way challenge, and am keen to raise as much as we possibly can.”
