Warner Goodman walk for mental health

Warner Goodman walk for mental health

On Sunday 14th October, a group of eight Warner Goodman employees took on the Walk the Test Way challenge to raise funds for Solent Mind.

On the day of the challenge, the group set off from Wherwell in the wind and the rain, walking the 16 miles to Romsey in just under 6 hours.  “This was both a physical and mental challenge for our walkers, particularly due to the inclement weather,” begins Pam Kamel, Trainee Solicitor who inspired the group to take part in the walk.  “As with any activity of this nature, while our bodies may tire it’s important that our minds stay positive.  Unfortunately for so many, this is a daily struggle and that’s why we felt it important to complete this challenge ourselves to help raise funds for Solent Mind.”

Solent Mind forms a part of the 140 local Mind support groups across England and Wales, providing support and advice to those who have mental ill health through services such as counselling and online resources.  “Part of their work is to campaign and raise awareness to help overcome the stigma of having mental ill health,” continues Pam.  “One in four of us will experience some form of mental health issue in the course of a year, which will naturally impact every aspect of our lives.  I am so proud that we have been able to raise over £970 for Solent Mind through the walking challenge, and would be delighted if we could reach our target of £1,000.  This charity does such important work and with mental health becoming more openly discussed their resources will only be used more and more over the coming months and years. ”

It’s not too late to donate to the walking team; you can find their Just Giving page here or visit our Newspages for more details on the charities we work with.
