Our Private Client team are always keen to support the local community as well as our clients in their journey towards protecting their future, and as such have recently become a Friend of Age Concern.  To celebrate the collaboration, Jane Cox and Kirsten Edberg from the team visited the Lockswood Day Care Centre to see first hand the excellent work this charity does across the region.

Who are Age Concern Hampshire?

Age Concern Hampshire is a registered charity which works to promote independent living for over 50’s across the county.  Providing advice, information sessions, care and support to over 58,000 people each year, the charity’s vision is that getting older should be a positive experience where everyone is respected, valued and able to make informed choices.

Speaking of their visit to the Lockswood Day Care Centre, Jane commented, “It was a real pleasure to meet Yvette and Mandy from the centre.  Kirsten and I were extremely impressed with the variety of services and commitment they have towards the local community.  We arrived to one group playing a giant game of Kerplunk, another curling, and another playing a quiz.  Other activities that have taken place in the past have included wheelchair painting and synchronised swimming in chairs; they really do think outside the box to keep those in the centre active and creative in their daily lives."

The Lockswood Day Care Centre is open Monday to Friday and provides a day or half day care.  It provides a respite break for carers as well as offering other important services such as toe nail cutting, hair dressing and shower facilities.  They also have support from the Princes Trust, who will bring groups and stay for a number of days, bringing their own activities and ideas to the centre.

Jane concludes, “We are incredibly proud to have become a Friend of Age Concern, and look forward to many other opportunities to work with the charity and the people and carers who find their services so valuable.  Being prepared for the future is so important in today’s society, and Age Concern Hampshire are working towards the same goal of independence and making informed choices as we are.”
