Warner Goodman marketing apprentice Gina, shares her experience of learning in the workplace

  • Posted

To mark national apprenticeship week, we look at the contributions apprentices make to the workplace, and the way workplaces help apprentices learn their trade. Gina Spampinato, marketing apprentice, shares her story.

“During school we were encouraged to go on to A-levels and take the traditional route into university. But once I had completed my A levels I decided university wasn’t for me and I would benefit more from learning on the job. I wasn’t completely sure about the type of apprenticeship I wanted to go into when I stated applying. Luckily I got a job at Warner Goodman LLP within the marketing department in September 2015, helping me realise that a career in marketing is something I would like to pursue.

I have found learning on the job more beneficial than sitting in classroom learning about something, and putting my knowledge into practice gives me a chance to develop my skills and gain experience. I attend Eastleigh college one day a week, where I study six mandatory units and get to choose optional units to complete, most of which revolve around my chosen field of marketing, giving me specialist knowledge which is essential to the job.

Warner Goodman has made me feel very welcome and is very supportive when it comes to work within the office and college work. After my apprenticeship ends, I hope to get a full time job at the company and continue working within the marketing department. Even if I’m not successful in getting a job after, the apprenticeship has given me a lot of experience and knowledge that would be useful to me in whatever career I’m going into, and experience at such a young age gives me an edge in the job market which I wouldn’t be able to have without the opportunity Warner Goodman has given me.”
