Warner Goodman Commercial join forces with Elite HR for upcoming seminar

  • Posted

The events calendar for Warner Goodman’s Employment department has grown this year; not only will they be running their usual masterclasses and free seminars, but they have also teamed up with local HR recruitment and employment agency, Elite HR, to deliver an additional free seminar.

The event, to be held on Wednesday 5th April, will be at the Queen’s Hotel in Portsmouth.  Emma Kemp, Employment Solicitor and Training Co-ordinator for the team, commented, “Our events are usually held in the Southampton area, so we’re delighted to be bringing our knowledge and skills to Portsmouth, in conjunction with Elite HR.”

Employment Law Update

The seminar will be an ‘Employment Law MOT’; offering HR professionals and business owners an update on certain areas of employment law to improve their business practices and procedures.  “Our events are always run in an interactive style, with quizzes and case scenarios,” continues Emma.  “Employment law is best explained using real life examples, and the case scenarios help  the attendees to understand how the law works in practice.”

The topics that will be covered during the seminar include:

  • Case law update on:
    • employment status (namely the impact of the ‘gig economy’ and the difficulties faced by companies such as Uber and CitySprint),
    • disciplinary hearings,
    • disability discrimination,
    • reasonable adjustments and
    • stress at work,
  • An update on recent and forthcoming changes in employment law legislation, such as the Immigration Skills Charge, the Apprenticeship levy and national minimum wage,
  • Handling Data Subject Access Requests,
  • Tricky issues that arise from mental health illness in the workplace,
  • Strategies for employers following the latest holiday pay cases.

How to book

The seminar is free of charge to attend, with networking and breakfast from 7am.  The presentations will then begin at 8am, with the event closing at approximately 10.30am.

Jane Barry, Director of Elite HR, commented, “Not only will our attendees be able to fine tune their employment law knowledge, but this is also an excellent opportunity to network with other HR professionals from across Hampshire and share best practice through the industry.  We’re pleased to be working with Warner Goodman, and are looking forward to a successful event.”
