The teams at Warner Goodman LLP and Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association are both celebrating this week, after the success of their joint social media campaign during Down Syndrome Awareness Week; the fifth consecutive year Warner Goodman have supported the Portsmouth based charity.  During the week, which ran from Monday 19th March to Sunday 25th March, the law firm pledged to donate £1 for every new like to the charity’s Facebook page, up to a total of £2,000.

Claire Battye, Partner at Warner Goodman, spoke of the week, “This year the campaign was slightly different as not only did we promote the charity’s Facebook page, but also their Twitter page, encouraging new followers to their profile on that platform.  While we cap the amount of funds we donate during the week at £2,000 we also raised over £300 the week before with a dress down day, and over the last four years have been in a position to donate over £12,000 to the charity.”

Portsmouth DSA is a self-funding charity giving support to families and schools across Hampshire, ranging from education services, information days and a variety of social events, all provided in a warm and welcoming environment.  Rachael Ross, Founder of Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association, commented, “Every year we’re overwhelmed by the amount of support we have, and this year was no different.  We introduced Twitter to the campaign to allow people more options to follow us online, and we were delighted to gain 923 new followers on Twitter and 2,301 new likes on Facebook.  The campaign was also a success offline as thousands of individuals, schools and organisations supported us by holding their own fundraisers or assemblies.  People also took time out of their day to join us for our Coffee Morning which we held on Tuesday 20th March; World Down Syndrome Day.  We’re so grateful for the support that Warner Goodman offers during the week and all year round, as they help us provide essential services that many families in Hampshire rely on.”

Claire concludes, “As a firm, we are very proud of the partnerships we have developed with local charities, and it is wonderful to see the success of our campaign with Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association increase year on year.  As well as this campaign, we have also taken part in other activities over the years such as a Spinnaker Tower abseil, running in the Great South Run and a 10,000 foot skydive!  We are looking forward to making more plans with the charity on how we can continue to support them throughout 2018.”
