Maria faces her fear for charity

  • Posted

Maria Lawes, Conveyancing Assistant, will soon be facing her fear of heights by taking part in the Naomi House Spinnaker Tower Abseil.

The Abseil, which takes place on 10th August, will see Maria abseil 320 feet down the iconic white SpinnakerTower in Portsmouth in aid of Naomi House Children’s Hospice.  Naomi House and Jacksplace hospices provide care and support to children and young people who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.  The charity supports families for as long as they are needed, and provide care including respite care, emergency care, family support, hospice at home and end of life and bereavement support.

Maria, who is based at Warner Goodman LLP’s Portsmouth office, commented, “This abseil appealed to me straight away, not only as it was a personal challenge due to my fear of heights and I also wanted to achieve something big for the year I turned 30, but also knowing the excellent work that Naomi House achieves in the local community.  They need to raise £7million a year in order to run their services, without which many families in Hampshire would suffer greatly.

“While the money I raise from taking part won’t come near £7million on my own, collectively the money we raise will make a difference.  To feel that my contribution can help towards the charity’s hydrotherapy pool, or fund hours of emergency care from the nursing team is incredibly rewarding,” concludes Maria.
