Most drivers reading this will agree that tailgating is one of life’s biggest annoyances, but more importantly causes crashes that could easily be avoided.  The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) recognise the danger associated with tailgating, and so have recently launched their SafetyWatch #backoff campaign, an initiative that the Personal Injury Team at Hampshire based law firm Warner Goodman LLP earnestly supports.

“Having worked in Personal Injury for over 15 years, I’ve represented many clients who have been injured as a result of a road traffic accident,” begins Dan Thompson, Personal Injury Partner at Warner Goodman LLP.   “While a driver may be in a rush to get to their destination and so believe that driving closely to the car in front will encourage them to move out of the way or to speed up, what they’re actually doing is putting that driver under unnecessary stress and distracting them from what they should be focussing on; the road ahead of them.  Any distraction increases the risk of an accident and with it the risk of serious injury, and possibly a high insurance premium for the tailgating driver.”

Dan continues, “This topic is at the forefront of people’s minds with new laws passed recently to allow on-the-spot fines for tailgating motorists, and so APIL’s #backoff campaign could not have come at a better time to help raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of tailgating.

“We have five employees within our Personal Injury Team who are members of APIL, who see every day the devastation that an injury can cause, so we will always support any initiative that could reduce the number of accidents on our roads,” concludes Dan.
