Down Syndrome Awareness Week has become an important part of the Warner Goodman LLP calendar, as this marks an annual campaign for local charity, Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association (Portsmouth DSA).  The law firm has been raising awareness and funds for the charity for a number of years, and this will be the fourth consecutive year they have run their Facebook donation campaign.  Claire Battye, Commercial Property Partner, explains what the campaign involves and how people across Hampshire can help.

“We started supporting Portsmouth DSA in 2014 when we ran a Facebook campaign during Down Syndrome Awareness Week,” begins Claire.  “During the week, every new ‘like’ their Facebook page received, we donated £1.  The result was over 1,000 new likes to the page, raising not only crucial funds but also awareness of the excellent work the charity achieves each and every day for local families in Portsmouth and the wider community.  Four years later, we have worked with them on other campaigns and events, such as the Great South Run, an abseil down the Spinnaker, as well as the Facebook campaign each year.  As a result, we are extremely proud to have raised almost £10,000 for the charity in those years.”

Portsmouth DSA is a self-funding charity giving support to families and schools across Hampshire, ranging from education services, information days and a variety of social events, all provided in a warm and welcoming environment.  Rachael Ross, Founder of Portsmouth DSA, spoke of the partnership with the firm, “Over the last four years we have developed a wonderful partnership with Warner Goodman, and are extremely grateful for their support.  Recent years have seen our charity go from strength to strength, with more celebrity involvement, more people than ever being involved in our fundraising events, and new activities for the families to enjoy, such as drama sessions.  Our ongoing relationship with the firm forms an integral part of our events each year, with this year no different.”

Claire concluded, “Down Syndrome Awareness Week this year runs from Monday 20th March to Sunday 26th March, and we will once again be donating £1 for every new like the Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association Facebook page receives during this time.* We’re delighted that we can support the charity for another year, and look forward to taking part in a variety of fundraising events with them throughout 2017.”
