Marathon for Martha and the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity

Warner Goodman recently had the pleasure of meeting Emily Ball. Emily, now a client of Warner Goodman, shared with our team the recent heartbreak she and her family went through in November 2021.

Emily's daughter, Martha, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, a rare form of blood cancer. While treatment is ongoing, Martha requires full-time care, which Emily provides. Although the last year has been extremely hard for Emily, she told us it wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic ongoing support she receives from the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity. "They go above and beyond," Emily said.

The Rainbow Children's Trust supports families who have children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses and have been there for Emily in many different ways. The charity will often manage school collections and ensure her two other children can attend after-school events regularly. They also helped Emily return to work part-time.

After all the help she received from the charity, Emily wanted to give something back. Emily decided to run the 2022 London Marathon to raise money for the Rainbow Children's Trust. Emily set the bar high intending to raise £6,000 for the cause. The team at Warner Goodman was deeply touched by Martha’s story and donated £500 towards Emily's fundraising mission.

Jenny Colvin, a Partner at Warner Goodman, said, "Martha’s story hits hard for a lot of our team, particularly as parents. It's unimaginable to think of your own child going through this awful illness and the gruelling treatment involved. Emily, Martha, and her family have been so brave and incredibly strong throughout the last couple of years. When we heard how much the Rainbow Trust has helped Emily, and how Emily wanted to give something back, we wanted to provide as much help and support in any way that we could. We are so proud of Emily for completing the London Marathon - It's an incredible achievement."

Emily completed the London Marathon in six hours and three minutes, describing the event as "incredible." She also said, “The London Marathon was such an amazing experience. I've ran a marathon before, but this one felt extra special. Just before the start, we had people asking us about our Marathon for Martha t-shirts, and throughout the entire race, we had people clapping and cheering us on. It was brilliant!"

"Since Martha’s diagnosis, we have had support from many different charities, and in terms of practical support, The Rainbow Children’s Trust has been second to none. They have been instrumental in helping me and my family get back to living a relatively normal life again. I cannot thank them enough. I, my partner, and a good friend of ours, all ran for the Rainbows Children’s Trust, raising £10,500 in total. I'm, just so happy I can give something back to them for all they've done for me."

Help Emily reach her goal

In the end, Emily came very close to achieving her individual goal of £6,000, raising £5,849 for the Rainbow Children’s Trust charity. For anyone who can help Emily reach, and even exceed her goal, we ask if you can donate whatever you can to this fantastic cause.
