Warner Goodman LLP remembers the fallen and welcomes the Royal British Legion

  • Posted

On the morning of Monday 3rd November the Southampton office of Warner Goodman LLP opened up their doors for soldiers and members of the Royal British Legion to aid with their fundraising for the Poppy Appeal, raising over £400 for the charity.

Members of 10 Training Battalion of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) joined the staff for a presentation on where their generous donations are used, before selling poppies to the group.  Staff members of the firm were asked to wear an item of red clothing in return for a small donation.

Ian Curtis, Managing Partner of Warner Goodman LLP, said of the morning, “We were very proud to be asked to be one of three businesses in Southampton to help raise funds for the Poppy Appeal in this way.  With this year being the 100 year anniversary since the start of the First World War, we were keen to go above and beyond to raise as much as we could, and welcoming the soldiers into the office to meet the staff face to face seemed like a fantastic way to do this.”

10 Training Battalion of the REME is a phase 2 trade training school.  Their role is to provide professionally trained electrical and mechanical engineers in order to support the Army and Operations round the world.

Ian concluded, “We’re not just remembering the First and Second World Wars but also the more recent conflicts.  New technologies and social media platforms have exposed the younger generation to the impact that these wars can have on families and the communities they live in in a very different way, providing the facility for more debate and interactivity to the born.  What better way to bring our activities to the world of social media than to encourage our staff to join the latest social media trend and take ‘soldier selfies’ once they had bought their poppies!  This really helped the staff engage with the soldiers, making the experience more of a personal achievement to meet the people that their donations will help.”
